- <p> Like all the corporations now downsizing, like all the revelers
- now recovering, brassy comedian SANDRA BERNHARD, Madonna's ex-best
- friend, is cultivating a more somber, contemplative '90s persona.
- In her new book, Love, Love, and Love, a collection of short
- stories and musings, Sandra explores the painfulness of relationships.
- "This book is a reaction to the '80s," she says, "all that superficial,
- bad, brat-pack writing, all that insincerity and fear of emotion."
- There is humor too, like a spoof ("a homage, if you will") of
- the raw, tormented writing style of cult novelist Paul Bowles.
- A semiserious Sandra will appear onscreen as well, in Inside
- Monkey Zetterland, billed as a film about "truth and beauty
- or the lack of it," and in Dallas Dolls. Have no fear: Sandra
- says, "I'll never stop being funny."
